Second Shift Team Lead - Composites

TEAM LEAD - COMPOSITES

Job Summary

Act as the team leader for the supervision and direction of individual contributors within the Composites department.  This position has the responsibility and authority for supporting the Value Stream Manager and/or Supervisor in meeting assigned area goals and metrics. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead assigned team in the Order Fulfillment Process including resolving and/or escalating issues as they arise:
    • Establish work order priorities and/or shipping details with operational leader(s)
    • Monitors and reviews functional or operational area metrics against desired performance and provide input to the Value Stream manager and/or Supervisor
    • Conduct daily line level meetings to assign work order/jobs in order to satisfy operational/functional metrics and goals
    • Utilize various reports to monitor the progress of work orders / shipping deadlines to ensure on-time shipment
    • Ensure manufacturing procedures and quality standards are followed; including in-process inspections
    • Assist in providing performance management / disciplinary needs to Value Stream manager and/or Supervisor
    • Assist in verifying accuracy and completeness with required paperwork or reports for production and shipping
    • Use Scale, Weighing, and Mixing procedures to add resin & filler to prep resin for Molding, pressing or shaping process
    • Set up tooling, load programs and set machine parameters to ensure optimal equipment performance, including stop block shimming, shear bar changes and machine parameter entry
  • Activate machines to shape or form product
  • Manufacture molded glass polyester sheets by laying up material to the desired thickness and spreading resin according to customer orders per instructions written on Work Orders
  • Feed raw material product into machines by conveyor or moving table
  • Adjust machine components to regulate speeds, pressures, and temperatures, and amounts, dimensions, and flow of materials or ingredients.
  • Trim/file and de-flash molded sheet edges and perform measuring and material inspections
  • Complete work order paperwork
  • Perform in-process inspection according to standard procedures
  • Maintain count and perform packaging duties as required
  • Perform routine daily machine maintenance including cleaning up and lubrication
  • Participate in cross training to become knowledgeable of equipment/process within the department
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Provide guidance, feedback and positive behavior modeling The Gund Company culture of care:
    • Assist in the participation in all production process improvement Kaizen
    • Lead team or serves as backup to Shift Supervisor, as needed
    • Assist in daily shop start up/shut down process or weekend duties, as needed
    • Assign work orders to ensure Delivery/Reliability goals, as needed
    • Assist in reviewing NCMs/Corrective Actions
    • Actively engaged with training other team members
    • Assist in the review of work order Gross Margin Performance
    • Assist Sales in quoting new jobs with production time estimates, per actual process performances and capability
  • Determine if tools are undamaged and in safe condition for use
  • Make suggestions to improve production and order processing efficiency
  • Follow safety rules and quality standards
  • Model ethical and moral behavior consistent with the values and ideals supported by The Gund Company

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Perform work independently with minimal defects
  • Communicate with supervisor on work order priority
  • Open to change due to emergency orders or fabrication of parts
  • Very good math skills
  • Ability to understand drawing and blue prints
  • Ability to use complex measuring instruments
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to use Window/ERP based software
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed

Education and Experience

  • A High School Diploma or GED with prior hands on, vocational or job-related course work/training, or any similar combination of education and experience is required.  Prior experience in a manufacturing industry is preferred.
