General Manager

Job Summary

Gund Company is a manufacturer and fabricator of engineered material and component solutions primarily for the electrical power systems market. Our IRG Power Systems division is a distributor of complementary engineered component solutions for our customers in the electrical power equipment manufacturing industry, the locomotive repair industry, and the aerospace industry.

Reporting to the President, the General Manager of The Gund Company’s IRG Power Systems business unit has responsibility for the profitable growth of the business. The General Manager develops and formulates strategic plans to execute sales, sourcing, and order fulfillment processes to meet the needs of our customers. As a leader, the General Manager continuously improves the business operations in terms of taking care of each other, taking care of the customer, and taking care of the business.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead the strategic planning process for the business by identifying, quantifying, and prioritizing the projects for continuous improvement of our performance to achieve our goals.
  • Understand the voice of the customer to continuously evaluate, analyze and react to market and customer conditions impacting the growth of the business.
  • Identify and develop opportunities to expand our product line of products complementary to The Gund Company’s product line for distribution to our customer base.
  • Develop key customer and prospect relationships to capitalize on sales opportunities.
  • Lead the IRG team members to execute and improve key business processes including:
    • The sales and marketing process for business growth model execution
    • The order acquisition and fulfillment processes to develop customers and grow sales
    • The material sourcing and inventory management processes for high levels of customer satisfaction without negatively impacting cash flow
    • The production process to ship responsively with quality and on-time delivery
    • The continuous improvement processes to improve key measures and lower costs
    • The financial accounting, planning, and review processes to meet profit, expense, and cash targets
  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders at The Gund Company including Quality, Accounting & Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Business Development and Sales in order to leverage our infrastructure to grow IRG’s business cost effectively.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Ability to lead and influence people and teams
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to read and analyze financial statements
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Technically competent and able to provide clear direction

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, industrial manufacturing, engineering, or other related field and five years of experience in multi-site management with P&L responsibility, or any similar combination of education and experience is required
  • Experience in the electrical, locomotive, aerospace, or related industries.
  • At least ten years’ leadership experience in a manufacturing or distribution industry is required
  • International business experience is preferred.

The work environment is a combination of office, manufacturing and warehouse.
